are you focused on the right things?

All I needed to do was grab my client's address to send them some snail mail…

Then to my surprise, 45 minutes had passed (!!!) and I had done five different things.

And none of them were getting the address!!

I realized this when I looked down at my lap and saw the unaddressed envelope on my lap.

That time had passed without me doing the thing I ACTUALLY WANTED TO DO.

This thing happens to my clients a lot.

When we’re in the middle of a career transition, we want to do all of the things (scrolling, cleaning, complaining, etc.) that are easy because taking the time to focus on our job search (after finishing our day-job) is tiresome.

And fcking lonely.

We don't focus on THE one thing so we end up focusing on too many things.

As I’m sure you know, this doesn't help you get the jobs that you want or make you feel like you're not making any progress.

It often makes you feel lazy, stuck, unmotivated and down right guilty.

What I love about having a coach myself is that they help me stay focused on about 3-5 doable things that will have the most impact.

So for my clients, I make sure that they turn off notifications on all the random job search engines. (Seriously, like I’m not qualified to be a software engineer.)

Or I make sure that they're spending some time every single day on things that they absolutely love that have nothing to do with their job search. (Yes, you read that right.)

I make sure that they're only taking time to fill out their resume with things that they actually like doing.

And to only apply for jobs they ACTUALLY want that match (as much as possible with) their values.

And teach them skills on how to quickly and effectively prepare for interviews.

I challenged them to continue connecting with as many people in their desired industry/role as possible (AND it doubles as interview practice).

And because every individual is different, each client gets a personalized focus plan.

Some people need more rest and other people need more exercise.

Others thrive with more socializing and can bang out an elevator pitch quickly but need more finessing on their resume.

We work together to make sure that you get exactly what you need to be successful in YOUR job search.

So if we can slow you down, get off the ping pong table of doing ALL THE THINGS and instead get you focused on the things that matter, you'll be better off finding that new dream job that is waiting for you.

If you’re feeling stuck or unsure where to focus your job search, friend, please send me a message right meow.

I got you,

Nic
