Is it harder to get a new job when you don’t have one?

The short answer is no.

The nuanced longer answer is sometimes it is harder to find a new job when you don't have another job.

Why? Because the feelings of scarcity, financial instability, unworthiness, and all of the energetics around thoughts like “shit, I don't have a job right now” come through in your interviews.

So in those cases where you feel like you made a wrong decision, it will feel harder.

However, when you get your story straight and you can talk about your career gap in a way that is empowering and confident, then it's easier to get a job.

(Side note, there is a pandemic happening right now and if companies aren’t willing to hire you because of a gap or pause in your career then you probably don't want to work there anyway.)

If you're a person that would benefit from a bit more space right now in terms of personal and professional life and you can work it out financially, I've seen that it does really help to not have a job when you're looking for a job.

Then you can focus your time on getting exactly what you want without worrying about your current stressful, dead-end, gag-worthy job.

Every person I've known who has quit their job and went on to find a new one has never regretted quitting, they only regretted not having done it sooner.

So if you’re looking to take a leap of faith and bet on yourself in your career, let’s set up a call because this shit can be scary to think about and I'm very interested in helping you figure it out.

Don’t even get me started on how many jobs I’ve quit without something else lined up First name 😅 🎢

In love and joy,

Nic

PS. This is not an invitation to just quit your job.

What I want you to see is that if the myth of “it's harder to find a job without one” is stopping you from having true fulfillment in your career, you have a choice in the matter (and you don't need to do it alone).
